Bye Bye Big Ocean, A Sunny Day In Glasgow
OK, so we’ve opened with a handy metaphor for the exciting journey to Uni in Glasgow, but don’t think this playlist is all puns and prescience. This is a standout track from the band’s best album yet (Sea When Absent), and has an epic, evolutionary feel that’ll blow your mind.
No One Knows, Queens of the Stone Age
Once your mind’s blown, hammer it back into place with some classic Queens of the Stone Age. Nothing like a familiar track about unfamiliar circumstances to get the blood pumping.
Taste It, Jake Bugg
Former Scotcampus cover boy Jake Bugg may have lost some kudos with his second album, but this track from his debut release still perfectly captures the sense of excitement we get just before Freshers’ Festival opens each year.
Bubbles, Biffy Clyro
Few bands can match the energy of Biffy Clyro. Fact. And Bubbles is just the kind of buzzing track we want to carry our playlist to it’s heady mid-point.
Just Like A Dream, Lykke Li
Time for a playlist bridge: enter Lykke Li’s dreamy, intense and ponderous track from her latest album. Perfect for daydreaming about those piles of freebies.
Sing, Ed Sheeran
Bridge over, time to be pepped up with an indie-pop essential. We’re not normally ones to be told what to do, but we can’t help comply when Ed tells us to Sing.
They Want My Soul, Spoon
Our tongues are firmly in cheek here. Yes, we know it’s weird giving your email address out to dozens of local businesses, but it’s worth it for the free stuff.
Treat, Kasabian
We had to finish with this track. Not just because it’s an apt description of the Freshers’ Festival experience, but because Kasabian’s gutsy style will make you walk into the SECC feeling like a boss.
